Design for circularity

Facilitated by Professor Usha Iyer-Raniga (RMIT University)

Associate Professor Geoff Germon (Talon Technology Pty Ltd)

You can make some clever things from plastic waste, but the current plastic parts aren’t one of them

Almost all plastic products are designed from the start to be made from clean virgin plastic, it is close to impossible to make these products economically from post consumer waste.

We need to start designing products that can only be made economically from the plastic waste no one wants. This requires a complete change in design thinking.

In this presentation we will look at how the introduction of woven fibre fused together with recycled soft plastics can create a whole new design language for the manufacture of plastic parts.
