After a lifetime in international elite sport (field hockey), Murray Richards is applying his psychology and design education, together with industry experience, to research the application of design strategies in disrupting connections between fresh produce and single-use plastic packaging at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).<\/p>\n\n
<\/div><\/figure><\/div><\/div>Md Monjurul Islam (RMIT University)<\/strong><\/h5>\n\nPoster 11:\u00a0Impact of bioplastics on environment from its production to end-of-life<\/em><\/p>\n\nMd Monjurul Islam is a PhD student (Civil and Infrastructure Engineering) at RMIT University with RMIT and CSIRO PhD Scholarship, funded by the Ending Plastic Waste (EPW) Mission. He completed his MSc and BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Islamic University, Bangladesh. Currently, his research focuses on the development of a Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) database and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis of bioplastics as a part of the EPW Mission at CSIRO.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Her work focuses on bioprospecting using culture-dependent and independent methods for the characterisation of novel PHA synthases via cell-free protein synthesis. Stemming from artist Jessie French\u2019s exploration of algae-based polymers, the studio focuses on applied applications. In 2024, the studio launched the world\u2019s first fully recyclable alternative to PVC decals, showcasing innovative, sustainable material technology for various industries.<\/p>\n\n

He has worked on various platforms including vaccine, biopolymer optimisation and production in laboratory to 1000L scale, protein expression in high density culture, plant micro propagation and viral vaccine processes in bioreactors. She assesses the impacts of complex mixtures of contaminants on ecosystem health using traditional and new approach methodologies. She has developed \u201cfit for purpose\u201d approaches to promote sustainable waste management across agriculture, industry, and urban sectors.<\/p>\n\n

He has held appointments at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, Pharmacy College Victoria and Swinburne University before joining CSIRO. Md Monjurul Islam is a PhD student (Civil and Infrastructure Engineering) at RMIT University with RMIT and CSIRO PhD Scholarship, funded by the Ending Plastic Waste (EPW) Mission. He completed his MSc and BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Islamic University, Bangladesh.
