Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) plays a distinct and essential role within this broader carbon management landscape. Alongside carbon capture and storage (CCS), which prevents anthropogenic CO\u2082 emissions from entering the atmosphere, and carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), which recycles captured CO\u2082 into products, CDR delivers net negative emissions by removing CO\u2082 directly from the atmosphere and storing it durably.
