Karishma Jain (RMIT University)

Poster 15: 2D MOF-Carbon nanofiber composite membrane for efficient removal of microplastics

Karishma Jain has been enrolled as a doctoral student at CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi, India, since January 2020 under the supervision of Dr Sanjay R Dhakate. Her research project focuses on the ‘synthesis of carbon nanofibers from biopolymer blends and their potential applications’. In June 2023, she joined Dr Nasir Mahmood’s research group at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, under the AcSIR-RMIT joint PhD program. Currently, she is focusing on Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and carbon nanofiber composites for energy and environmental applications.

Samuel A Smith (CSIRO)

Poster 20: Continuous, low Energy, recycling of plastics

Dr Sam Smith is a CERC postdoctoral fellow at CSIRO. Experienced in polymer depolymerisation, he is investigating mild energy input processes to depolymerise polyolefin and poly(ethylene terephthalate) waste plastic, and establishing the depolymerisation process in continuous flow.

Michael Batten (CSIRO/IPPIN)

Poster 25: Building a recycling industry in regional Indonesia

Dr Batten is a research scientist with extensive experience in the manufacturing, recycling and environmental catalyst industries. He now focusses on assisting the development of Advanced Recycling industries as a means to drive-down the impact of plastic pollution in the Indo-Pacific region.

Kathryn Willis (CSIRO)

Poster 30: ‘Ending plastic waste: community actions around the world’ book

Kathryn is a postdoctoral researcher at CSIRO who is particularly interested in how communities can establish best-practice management strategies in marine systems, and in doing so, maximise their environmental and social impact. She has worked extensively on policy responses to plastic pollution and the breadth of her work evaluates the selection, implementation and effectiveness of marine litter management strategies in countries around the world.

Gunjan Pandey (CSIRO)

Poster 35: Plastic degradation by two wax moths, Galleria mellonella and Achroia grisella

Gunjan Pandey is a senior scientist at CSIRO Environment. He leads a team researching the biochemical and genetic mechanisms behind polyethylene degradation by Greater and Lesser wax moths. The goal of his team’s work is to harness these mechanisms to develop innovative solutions for plastic waste management.
