Carbon capture and sequestration sites are chosen with great care to ensure favourable conditions for the safe long-term storage of CO₂. A robust measurement, monitoring, and verification (MMV) framework remains central to ensuring the long-term security of geological CO₂ storage. A reliable MMV plan must be able to monitor any potential CO₂ leakage—no matter how unlikely—in a cost-efficient manner.
