Oral presentation: Modelling the capacity and cost of novel carbon dioxide removal in Australia

Achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions requires a coordinated suite of carbon management strategies that both reduce emissions and address the legacy of carbon dioxide already accumulated in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) plays a distinct and essential role within this broader carbon management landscape. Alongside carbon capture and storage (CCS), which prevents anthropogenic CO₂ emissions from entering the atmosphere, and carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), which recycles captured CO₂ into products, CDR delivers net negative emissions by removing CO₂ directly from the atmosphere and storing it durably. These three carbon management approaches rely on a range of complementary technologies and this matrix highlights the range of CO2 capture and CO2 storage processes that can combine to form CDR, CCS and CCU approaches…
