Justine Barrett, CSIRO
Justine Barret from CSIRO currently has a leading role in stakeholder liaison, operational/fieldwork aspects and on-ground asset management across multiple technology-based projects. She is the chief ‘stormtooper’ in the group, leading the stormwater litter prevention work. Her research is aimed at reducing plastic pollution from reaching our waterways and oceans.
Justine joined the marine debris team at CSIRO in 2017, where she established a method for detecting microplastics in deep-sea sediment and was subsequently the lead author of a paper publishing the first global estimate of microplastics in deep-sea sediment.
Justine has over 20 years of experience working in the science industry in technical, teaching and research roles. A career highlight was being selected for Homeward Bound, a ground-breaking leadership initiative, set against the backdrop of Antarctica, which aims to heighten the influence and impact of women in making decisions that shape our planet.
